Two explosions in northern Afghanistan killed at least nine people and wounded 13 others, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Taliban Spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri revealed that the blasts targeted two separate vehicles in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province.

The source of the blasts was not immediately clear and the spokesman provided no further details. No one claimed responsibility for the attack.
Residents in the area pointed out that members of the Shiite minority Hazara ethnic group appeared to be the target, according to media outlets.
The attacks are the latest in a series of deadly bombings to rattle Afghanistan.
Last week, 33 Shiite worshippers were killed when a bomb ripped through a mosque and an adjacent religious building school. The Islamic State group (IS) claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Richard Bennett, the United Nation’s Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan on human rights, condemned the attacks. “Today more explosions rocks Afghanistan […] and again the Hazara community is a victim. Systematic targeted attacks on crowded schools and mosques calls for immediate investigation, accountability, and end to human rights violations,” he wrote on Twitter.
