Nine miners were killed in a coal mine explosion in Colombia, caused by a suspected gas build-up, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred about 70 kilometers east of Bogotá in the Sutatausa area of Cundinamarca province.
Colombia’s National Mining Agency said six workers were rescued and taken to hospital, while nine others died. Rescue operations have now concluded, with officials confirming the final toll.
Earlier reports indicated that 15 miners had been trapped underground before emergency teams reached them.
Authorities believe the explosion was triggered by accumulated gas, a major hazard in coal mining.
