At least nine people were killed, and six others were injured following an explosion in a coal mine in southwest Pakistan.

The incident occurred in the Bolan district of Balochistan province, a region known for its rich mineral resources but notorious for unsafe mining conditions.

Local authorities reported that the explosion was likely caused by a buildup of methane gas inside the mine, which triggered a powerful blast, trapping workers underground.

Rescue teams swiftly arrived at the scene and managed to retrieve the bodies of the deceased, along with six survivors who were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The Chief Inspector of Mines in Balochistan stated, "An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Our primary focus is on ensuring the safety of the remaining miners and providing support to the affected families."

Pakistan’s mining sector, particularly in Balochistan, has long faced criticism for inadequate safety measures and poor working conditions. Fatal accidents are common due to outdated equipment, lack of ventilation, and insufficient safety protocols.

The provincial government expressed its condolences to the victims' families and promised to enforce stricter safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies.

This incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for improved safety standards in Pakistan's mining industry to safeguard workers' lives.
