Nine individuals, including five juveniles, perished in a devastating SUV crash on Monday night in western Palm Beach County, Florida.
The accident occurred when the driver lost control of a 2023 Ford Explorer on Hatton Highway in Belle Glade, causing it to veer off the road, hit a guardrail, and overturn into a canal.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle failed to navigate a left curve, leading to the fatal incident around 7:30 p.m.
Four victims were declared dead at the scene, while six others were rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, five of them succumbed to their injuries.
The sole survivor, a 26-year-old male, is currently hospitalized at St. Mary’s Medical Center with serious injuries.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue reported that the victims included both young children and adults.
Emergency responders found the SUV partially submerged and upside-down in the canal.
Two victims were airlifted to a trauma center, and four others were transported by ground units. Divers were deployed to ensure all occupants were accounted for.
While scattered rainstorms were present in the area that evening, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
