At least nine people lost their lives and over 30 others sustained injuries following a devastating fire that broke out at a nursing home in Fall River, Massachusetts, late Sunday evening.

The tragic incident was confirmed by state fire authorities early Monday morning.

The blaze erupted at Gabriel House, a senior care facility housing approximately 70 residents.

Firefighters responded swiftly to the emergency, confronting thick smoke and intense flames that had engulfed the building’s front facade. Many residents were trapped inside as emergency responders arrived.

Dozens of firefighters battled the fire overnight, including 30 off-duty personnel who joined the rescue and suppression efforts. The fire was brought under control by early Monday, allowing teams to access the interior and rescue numerous residents.

Several of those saved were transported to local and regional hospitals with varying degrees of injury. Emergency responders described the conditions as extremely dangerous, with residents seen clinging to windows for help.

Local authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause and origin of the fire, which remains unknown. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Fall River community, marking one of the deadliest residential care facility fires in recent state history.
