Nine passengers were killed, and 26 others were injured when a bus overturned in the suburbs of Ecuador's capital, Quito, on Tuesday, authorities reported.
The Ecuadorian Fire Department confirmed the death toll in a post on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating, "Tragically, the death toll has risen to nine."
They also noted that "of the 26 individuals treated, ten were transported to nearby health centers for further care."
The accident occurred on a road connecting the cities of Pifo and Papallacta, located to the east of Quito.
While the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, such incidents are not uncommon in Ecuador, where road traffic accidents are among the leading causes of death.
