Severe flooding in southern Thailand has resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and forced more than 13,000 people to flee their homes, according to Thai authorities.
Torrential rains have devastated the region, impacting eight provinces and affecting over half a million households.
Thailand’s Disaster Mitigation Agency reported that 553,921 families have been affected by the flooding, with thousands now seeking refuge in temporary shelters set up in schools and temples.
The Thai government has deployed rescue teams to assist affected residents and allocated $1.7 million in flood relief funds for the impacted provinces.
Authorities are continuing to provide essential aid, including food, water, and medical supplies, to displaced families while working to repair damaged infrastructure and restore access to affected areas.
The Meteorological Department of Thailand has warned of continued heavy rainfall in parts of the southern region over the coming week, raising concerns about further flooding and potential landslides.
