Nine members of al-Qaeda were killed in airstrikes attributed to the United States on areas in southern Yemen.
A Yemeni security source in Abyan Governorate told media outlets that the strikes left nine members of the group killed, including a local leader.
The security official, who had previously said the attack took place in the northern Khabar al-Maraqsha district, added that the strikes targeted several locations in the mountainous region known for al-Qaeda activity.
A tribal official in the area said, "I saw five charred bodies in one targeted location and a burned-out car, while the others were in another location."
