Nine Afghan border force members were killed in separate attacks by Taliban militants in Afghanistan's western Herat province, a local TV channel reported on Friday.
Taliban militants launched vicious attacks on two Afghan border force outposts near the border with Iran in the Kohsan and Ghoryan districts Thursday night, the Tolo news TV reported.
"Nine border troops were killed and over one dozen others taken hostages by the militants after both outposts fell into the Taliban's control, following the heavy overnight clashes," the report indicated.
The province witnessed fierce clashes in recent years, with more violence seen in spring and summer commonly known as fighting season in Afghanistan.
In a separate incident, six children of a family were injured when a sticky improvised bomb attached to a vehicle parked inside a house in Mazar-i-Sharif, capital of the northern Balkh province, was detonated on Thursday evening, according to the report.
The injured children were transported to a regional hospital in the city.
