A deadly terrorist attack in the Togolese village of Malgbangou has claimed the lives of eight people, marking the latest in a string of violent incursions in the country’s northern region by armed groups.

According to reports from All Africa News, unidentified gunmen stormed Malgbangou, where they killed eight individuals, including the owner of a home sheltering displaced persons.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but local authorities suspect the involvement of extremist factions known to operate in the region.

This incident marks the second assault on Malgbangou in less than two weeks. In a previous attack, armed men set local shops ablaze before retreating into the surrounding wilderness; fortunately, no casualties were reported in that earlier event.

Residents, however, report that the area has been under relentless pressure, with incidents occurring almost weekly.

One resident from western Kpendjal, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration over the unrelenting violence, saying, “Not a week goes by without an incident.

This is unbearable.” As a result, many villagers have been forced to abandon their homes, seeking refuge in neighboring communities for safety.

The persistent insecurity has severely impacted the region's agricultural sector, with fields left unattended and farming activities at a standstill.

The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) is growing rapidly, with increasing reports of civilians abandoning their land due to the recurrent violence.

Since 2021, villages in western Kpendjal have experienced regular terrorist incursions, turning the area into a hotspot for extremist activities that have destabilized the community and disrupted the lives of countless civilians.
