A tragic fire at a nursing home in the outskirts of Belgrade, Serbia, claimed the lives of eight people early Monday, according to Serbian broadcaster RTS.
The fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. local time in the town of Barajevo, south of the Serbian capital.
Seven others sustained injuries and were promptly transported to a hospital in Belgrade for medical treatment.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze, which has left the local community in shock.
Emergency responders were able to contain the fire, preventing further casualties, but the damage to the facility is significant.
