At least eight people have been killed after a helicopter crashed in West Kalimantan province in Indonesia, with search and rescue teams continuing efforts to recover bodies and debris.
Authorities said the aircraft, identified as an Airbus H130, lost contact shortly after takeoff on Thursday. The helicopter had departed from a plantation area in Melawi before communication was lost just five minutes into the flight.
Indonesia’s national search and rescue agency reported that teams later located part of the wreckage, believed to be the tail section, approximately three kilometers west of the last known contact point.
Recovery operations remain ongoing as officials work to determine the cause of the crash.
The incident adds to growing concerns over aviation safety in remote regions of Indonesia, where challenging terrain and limited infrastructure can complicate flight operations and emergency response efforts.
