The count of Palestinians detained in the West Bank by Israeli forces has surpassed 7,000 since the onset of hostilities on October 7, 2023, according to Al Jazeera.

The report highlights that among those detained are over 220 women and about 440 minors, with at least eight Palestinians reported to have perished while in Israeli custody.

Detailing the severity of the situation, the report states, "The wave of arrests commencing on October 7 has been marked by an escalation in abuses, including maltreatment, physical assaults, and intimidation directed at both detainees and their families. This period has also seen extensive ransacking and demolition of civilian homes, alongside the seizure of vehicles, cash, and valuable assets."

As of December end 2023, the total number of Palestinians incarcerated in Israeli prisons tallied over 9,000.

The resurgence of conflict in the Middle East on October 7, 2023, followed a surprise incursion into Israeli territory by militants from Hamas, a group designated as a terrorist organization by multiple countries, including the United States and the European Union.

This incursion resulted in the deaths and hostage-taking of Israeli border community residents. Israel retaliated with a comprehensive blockade of Gaza, executing airstrikes against targets within the Strip and in select locations in Lebanon and Syria, while also commencing a ground offensive in Gaza.

The West Bank has been another focal point for confrontations.
