Security sources said that at least 70 people were killed in simultaneous attacks on two villages by suspected militants in Niger, near the border region with Mali, according to Sky News Arabia.
A security source said that about 49 villagers were killed and 17 people were wounded in the village of Chumbango.
Another source, a senior official at the Interior Ministry in Niger, said that about 30 other villagers were killed in the village of Zaromdaryi.
The West African country has witnessed attacks carried out by militants, and hundreds were killed in attacks that took place last year near the western borders with Mali and Burkina Faso and the southern border with Nigeria.
