Seven UN peacekeepers were killed in an explosion in Mali, according to breaking news broadcast by Al-Arabiya TV.
Earlier, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack that targeted civilians last Friday in central Mali, which killed at least 30 civilians and injured others.
The Secretary-General expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured, stressing that such deliberate attacks against the civilian population represent serious violations of international human rights and humanitarian law.
The Secretary-General reiterated the United Nations' continued support and solidarity with the people and government of Mali.
