Egyptian drama and film makers always turn to literary works created by great Egyptian writers and adapt them into series, the latest is iconic Egyptian Nobel Laureate, Naguib Mahfouz.
Seven literary works by Mahfouz are being adapted into TV series including, two for Ramadan 2021 drama marathon.
“The King”
Egyptian actor Amr Youssef will participate in Ramadan 2021 drama marathon with TV series “El Malek” (the king).
Youssef will play king Ahmose I, who chased and removed the Hyksos from the Nile Delta.
The series, starring a large A-list cast, is adopted from “Thebes at War“, an early novel by the international writer.
It is directed by Hussein Al-Manbawi and penned by Mohamed, Khaled, and Sherine Diab.
“Bayn El Samaa Wa El Ard”
Synergy Production Company is adapting Mahfouz’s novel “Bayn El Samaa Wa El Ard” into a TV series.
The series directed by Mandu El Adl and written by Islam Hafez.
"Cairo"
Outside the Ramadan marathon, another five literary works by the iconic Laureate are being prepared for a multiple-season TV series entitled 'Cairo,' set for a 2022 release date.
"Cairo" will feature the novels of "Cairo Modern", "The Thief and the Dogs", "Karnak", "Gossip over the Nile", and "The Road".
The series is written by Mariam Naoum and produced by iProductions, "Cairo" will be directed by Tamer Mohsen, who will present eight episodes per season.
