At least seven people were killed, and 100 others were kidnapped on Saturday evening during an armed assault on a rural community in Katsina State, northwestern Nigeria.
This incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks on residents in the region.
Armed gangs frequently target local communities in northwestern Nigeria, abducting residents, students, and motorists for ransom.
According to residents, the assailants stormed the village of Maidadu in the Danmusa area of Katsina State on motorcycles, opening fire and causing widespread panic.
Hassan Aliyu, a resident, reported that the attack caught the villagers off guard, resulting in the disappearance of dozens of women and children.
“They killed seven people, including burning two children,” Aliyu said. “They spent more than six hours destroying our properties.”
Auwalu Ismail, another resident, said the gunmen first blocked all roads leading to Maidabino before the attack.
“They burned down our shops, and vehicles, and took away our livestock. They also kidnapped my wife and more than 100 women and children,” he said.
Abubakar Aliyu Sadiq, a spokesperson for the Katsina State Police, confirmed the attack and the deaths of seven individuals.
However, he did not provide details on the missing persons, stating that the police are investigating the incident.
