A devastating house fire in Hunan Province, central China, claimed the lives of seven people early Saturday morning, according to local authorities cited by Xinhua News Agency.
The blaze broke out at about 5:02 a.m. in a five-story residential building in the Sanxi district of Zhangjiajie City. Authorities reported that the fire originated on the second floor, which spanned an area of 160 square meters.
Despite the rapid response of rescue teams, seven bodies were discovered during the firefighting operation.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames shortly after their arrival, but the loss of life underscores the severity of the incident.
