Northern Vietnam has been hit by severe floods and landslides caused by heavy rains from storm Brabiron, resulting in seven confirmed deaths and nine missing persons, according to authorities on Thursday.

The National Disaster Prevention Committee of Vietnam reported that over 600 homes were damaged or destroyed in the affected provinces, including Son La, Hoa Binh, and Dien Bien.

Among the recent casualties were a mother and her child, who lost their lives in a landslide in Dien Bien Province.

Two houses were destroyed, and five people remain missing. Additionally, the torrential rains have inundated 25,000 hectares of rice fields.

The northern provinces of Vietnam have experienced continuous heavy rainfall for the past two days, leading to floodwaters rushing from the mountains into residential areas.

Although the rains have begun to subside today, local authorities have warned of the potential for further landslides due to the excessive water saturation of the mountains.
