At least 60 people have been killed in a wave of coordinated armed attacks across northwest Nigeria, underscoring the country’s deepening security crisis.
Local authorities reported that at least 20 people were killed in the town of Irina in Shiroro district of Niger State, while separate raids by gunmen in Kebbi State left more than 40 others dead.
The attacks are part of a broader pattern of escalating violence across several Nigerian states, where heavily armed gangs continue to target rural communities. These groups are known for carrying out raids, looting villages, and kidnapping residents for ransom.
Northwest Nigeria has become a major hotspot for insecurity, with armed factions expanding their operations and influence into new areas, including regions further south. The persistent violence has strained local authorities and heightened fears among civilians, as efforts to restore stability face ongoing challenges.
