At least 60 people were killed in a violent assault on a village in northeastern Nigeria, where residents had only recently returned after displacement camps were shut down.
Local authorities confirmed that the attack occurred late on Friday in Darul Jamma, a village near the border with Cameroon. Among the dead were five Nigerian soldiers, underscoring the persistent threat facing both civilians and security forces in the region.
For more than a decade, northeastern Nigeria has endured relentless bloodshed caused by armed groups operating across its remote borderlands.
Despite large-scale military campaigns backed by regional and international partners, insurgent factions continue to mount sporadic raids on villages and military positions, particularly in areas straddling Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, and Chad.
