On Sunday, the six nation naval exercise "Red Wave 5" kicked off, with the participation of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Sudan, Djibouti, Yemen, and observers from Somalia, in addition to the Royal Saudi Land Forces, the Royal Saudi Air Force and naval units of the Saudi Border Guard.

Saudi Commander of the Western Fleet Rear Admiral Yahya bin Mohammed Al-Asiri, who commands the exercise, said the drill aims to enhance maritime security for the countries bordering the Red Sea, protect territorial waters, strengthen military cooperation, unify concepts in naval operations, and exchange combat experiences between units of the participating countries to raise their readiness, and to ensure maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, given the importance of the water passage to the world as an important economic corridor.

He added that the drill will witness all practical exercises, which will contribute to raising the combat readiness of all participating forces.
