It seems that some of the anime shows cannot be adapted to live-action movie; as certain dialogue, storytelling techniques, and even emotional weight can only be achieved through anime.

Here is a list of the top six worst live- action adaption that did not do justice to the original anime.

 6) Death Note

Death Note

Netflix adaptation of the anime was horrible; even Willem Dafoe could not save this movie.

The anime, which was a very strong reason why many people joined the world of anime from the beginning, became a disaster when it was adapted to live-action film. Fans asserted that the Japanese adaption was way better.

 Death Note

“Such a waste of time. Death Note was fine the way it was and this "adaptation" doesn't know what made Death Note so awesome originally,” one of the anime fans said.

“The cast choices, terrible. The characters, unenjoyable. The setting, stupid. They ruined the characters and made one of the greatest anime into a total joke.”

The movie was directed by Adam Wingard and written by Charles & Vlas Parlapanides, Jeremy Slater and Kyle Kilner. It stars Nat Wolff, Willem Dafoe, Lakeith Stanfield, Margaret Qualley and Shea Whigham.

5) Devilman Crybaby

Devilman

The live-action adaptation of "Devilman Crybaby" was so bad that it became the worst of the worst when it came to Japanese films in an annual poll. The film failed miserably despite being made in Japan.

“Devilman” was universally panned by critics, citing the poor use of inexperienced actors in the form of idols such as the Izaki twins as the main drawback.

Moreover, they have also criticized the progression of the film as the events had moved so fast, no time was used to develop the characters.

Although the film did well in terms of box office, it was given three rewards for recognition as the worst film of 2004.

Devilman

The only remotely good award received was Best Special Effects at Asia-Pacific Film Festival in 2004.

The film was released in Japan on 9 October, 2004, and directed by Hiroyuki Nasu.

4) Ghost In The Shell

Ghost In The Shell

American star Scarlett Johansson herself could not deliver fair representation of the legendary anime.

“It would be very difficult for an adaptation to live up to the 1995 Ghost in the Shell anime film but this doesn't even come close. I didn't want to hate it, but it was so bad I couldn't finish it,” according to one of the reviews.

Ghost In The Shell

“It's hard to pick out which element is the worst because it falls flat on every one. The story isn't engaging, the dialogue is bad and poorly delivered, the action isn't exciting, the art design is bland and so is the soundtrack.”

“1995's Ghost in the Shell has a very hypnotic, slow paced rhythm much like Blade Runner, but this live action version just feels so generic despite the fact that they try to recall some aspects of the anime films and TV shows,” the fan clarified, noting that the film was “Ghostless Shell.”

“The whole thing just looks and feels cheap, like a soulless copy of its former self. If you haven't seen the 1995 or 2004 anime films you might not have such a high bar and might be able to tolerate it, but even on its own it isn't very good and there are many sci-fi films that do it better, much better.”

Ghost In The Shell

The movie was released in 2017, which was the worst year regarding live-action adaptions of anime. It was directed by Rupert Sanders and written by Jamie Moss, William Wheeler and Ehren Kruger.

Other than Johansson; it stars Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, Chin Han and Juliette Binoche.

3) Dragon Ball Evolution

Dragon Ball Evolution

Hollywood's take on the legendary Dragon Ball saga had very bad reviews from day one. Dragon Ball fans believed that the trailers and posters were a warning sign to stay away from this live-action adaptation.

“This film is legendary bad. Which sucks because I like the actors but the characters they were supposed to portray made them look bad,” one of the Dragon Ball fans said about the film.

“Goku is an angsty teenager, ChiChi is the forced romantic interest, Piccolo is evil and everyone is a side character,” the fan added. “They even did that Star Wars cliché of killing off Goku's family and he sobs out upset. Then it turns into a lame road trip movie in search of the Dragonballs.”

Dragon Ball

“Not to mention these fight scenes suck. I would take Warriors of Virtue any day over this movie. At least the villain was funny. This movie was just pathetic,” the fan stressed.

The film was directed by James Wong, produced by Stephen Chow, and written by Ben Ramsey. It stars Justin Chatwin,  Emmy Rossum, Jamie Chung and Yun-Fat Chow.

2)Tokyo Ghoul

Tokyo Ghoul

The Japanese dark fantasy action horror film was released in Japan on 29 July 2017.

“Tokyo Ghoul is a poor waste of time and money, with clear cuts of story that add up to confusion and an overall sense of doubt,” one of the fans, who rated the film (4/10),wrote.

“Fans of the manga will feel frustration due to the lack of anything that would justify a film adaptation and new viewers will feel confused and uninterested,” the fan added. “And the worst part is that the story that was told has the potential of being so much more entertaining and genuinely intriguing if told properly.”

Tokyo Ghoul

“Sorry to say, but this is totally beyond unexpected. It is changed from the real stories. It is really frustrating,” another fan said, calling it “Beyond Unexpectation.”

It is directed by Kentarō Hagiwara and stars Masataka Kubota as Ken Kaneki and Fumika Shimizu as Tōka Kirishima.

1) Attack On Titan

 Attack On Titan

Another masterpiece in the anime world was ruined; fans gave terrible reviews about the live-action movie of “Attack on Titan”. Just as everyone was obsessed with the anime and manga; they were disappointed at the movie.

Fans asserted that certain anime or manga ideas are simply too big and ambitious for live-action to successfully recreate, specially this one.

 Attack On Titan

“This movie was astonishingly bad. I couldn't believe what I was watching,” one of the fans said. “This movie just failed.”

“The characters didn't act like they did in the manga or anime, the flying with the ODM gear looked tacky and hard to see, the titans looked like bad CGI in the 80's,” the fan explained.

 Attack On Titan

“It might look cool but pause the titan and look at it closely. You'll see it's not as cool as it might look. Everything you liked about the anime isn't here and I can't believe they somehow made a part 2.”

 Attack On Titan

“This movie has given anime a bad name. The characters were in no way like their manga and anime counterparts at all, the plot was WAY off from the original material, and they cut out key characters like Annie and Levi! And then they made a sequel that no one wanted or asked or!? WHAT THE HELL, SHINJI HIGUCHI!,” another fan wrote.
