At least six people were killed and five others injured when a high-speed train collided with a bus in Slovakia, according to government rescue services on Thursday evening.
The Slovak news agency TASR reported that the crash involved a EuroCity train traveling from Prague to Budapest, which collided with a local bus near the town of Nové Zámky.
More than 100 passengers were on board the train at the time of the accident, according to the police and the state railway company ŽSSK.
Public broadcaster RTVS reported that the bus was completely destroyed in the collision, and the train's locomotive caught fire.
The cause of the accident is still unknown. Media speculated that the signaling system at the level crossing may have been damaged by floods that started on Wednesday evening, but there has been no official confirmation.
Slovak Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok, who visited the accident site, confirmed that all the fatalities were bus passengers.
The train driver was among the injured and has been transported to a hospital in Bratislava and other cities.
The nearby Nové Zámky hospital was closed due to flooding, necessitating the transfer of injured individuals, according to the minister.
