An explosion at an ammunition factory in southeastern Spain has left six people injured, including one with serious injuries.
The blast occurred at a warehouse owned by "Rheinmetall Expal," a subsidiary of the German weapons manufacturer Rheinmetall, located in the municipality of Javalí Viejo in the Murcia region. The explosion was reported by Spanish emergency services on Thursday.
One of the victims sustained critical injuries, while the other five, ranging in age from 30 to 52, suffered head injuries, burns, and smoke inhalation.
Emergency responders rushed five of the injured men to local hospitals for treatment. The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and Rheinmetall has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
In addition to the injuries, the explosion ignited a wildfire that spread over 2,000 square meters in the industrial area before it was brought under control.
The Spanish news agency Europa Press reported that local authorities are investigating the cause of both the explosion and the resulting fire.
Rheinmetall Expal, part of the German weapons conglomerate Rheinmetall, is a global leader in the manufacture of ammunition and weapons.
