A small plane crash in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has claimed the lives of six people, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The crash occurred early Saturday morning in the northeastern part of the city, shortly after the plane took off from Philadelphia International Airport.

The FAA confirmed in a statement that six individuals were aboard the plane, which crashed and caused a significant fire in the area.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, but emergency services were quick to respond to the scene. The crash site is located near the Roosevelt Mall in the northeastern part of Philadelphia.

This tragedy follows closely behind another aviation disaster two days prior in Washington D.C., which claimed 67 lives, adding to the already heavy toll of air travel incidents in recent days.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his condolences and said that all available resources were being used to assist emergency responders in dealing with the aftermath of the crash.

Philadelphia police reported that emergency services were immediately dispatched to the crash site, and videos circulating on social media show a large fireball followed by several smaller fires in the surrounding urban area.

These videos also suggest that the flames spread to at least one nearby home and several vehicles.

The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management confirmed that road closures were implemented in the vicinity of the crash site to allow for emergency operations.
