6.4-Magnitude Earthquake Structs India

On Wednesday, a powerful 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit northeastern India, according to Indian media.

According to an official statement by the National Centre for Seismology, the Centre revealed: "A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter Scale struck Assam's Sonitpur Wednesday morning at around 7:51 am."

"The serve quake was at a depth of 17 km from the surface," the statement added.

In response to this disaster, Assam Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and wrote, "Just experienced a massive earthquake in Assam. Waiting for details."

Further, The Indian official posted photos of broken walls inside a building and a broken boundary wall in Guwahati showing the impact of the high-intensity earthquake.

On the other hand, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured all possible help from the Centre. "I pray for the well-being of the people of Assam," he said.

In the same context, India's National Disaster Management Agency was assessing reports of destruction and casualties after the quake.

It's worth mentioning that the epicentre of the earthquake was in Sonitpur near Dhekiajuli town, 43 km west of Assam's Tezpur. Meanwhile, strong tremors were felt throughout the region.
