A 5.9-magnitude earthquake has struck western Indonesia, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.
The quake occurred approximately 48 kilometers northwest of Nias, off the coast of Sumatra Island, at a depth of 10 kilometers, officials said.
No immediate reports of casualties or damage have been confirmed.
Indonesia is frequently affected by earthquakes due to its location along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a seismically active zone where multiple tectonic plates meet, causing regular volcanic and seismic activity.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation following the tremor.
