A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of central Chile early Sunday morning, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences.
The quake occurred at 02:34 GMT at a depth of 10 kilometers, the monitoring agency reported.
Seismologists located the epicenter near latitude 37.70 degrees south and longitude 73.19 degrees west, close to Chile’s central coastal region.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage following the earthquake. Authorities continue to monitor the situation for possible aftershocks.
