The Chinese authorities evacuated more than 5,700 people from their homes and transferred them to temporary shelter centers in safe areas after a dam burst in the Hunan province in the center of the country, causing massive floods, according to what was announced by official media in Beijing.
China International Television Network (CGTN) reported on Sunday that no deaths have been reported so far as a result of the dam breach, noting that meals and clean drinking water are being distributed in shelter centers.
The network indicated that rescue operations are still underway, as relief teams are using heavy machinery to place stones on both ends of the dam in an attempt to fill the gap resulting from its crack.
Yesterday (Saturday), Chinese President Xi Jinping directed the relevant authorities to make comprehensive rescue and relief efforts following the burst of a dam in Hunan Province, located in the center of the country.
