A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck western China on Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The quake occurred near a rural area of Tewo County in Gansu province at 2:56 pm local time, or 0656 GMT. The epicentre was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometres.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage following the tremor. Local authorities are monitoring the situation and assessing potential impacts in surrounding communities.
Western China is prone to seismic activity due to its complex geological structure, and moderate earthquakes are periodically recorded across the region.
