An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 struck near the southern islands in Japan on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake was recorded at a depth of ten kilometers at 9:12 am CET. Its epicenter was registered 20 kilometers north-northeast of the Japanese town of Wadomari, located on the island of Okinoerabujima, which is classed with the Amami archipelago between the Japanese islands of Kyushu and Okinawa, Breaking The News reported.
There were no initial reports of casualties or material damage, and no tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake.
