5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Northwest Iran

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck northwestern Iran, specifically the West Azerbaijan province, without any casualties reported so far.

The official Iranian news agency "IRNA" reported that the earthquake hit northwestern Iran at 6:47 am local time.

It added that the epicenter of the earthquake was West Azerbaijan province, where it occurred at a depth of 8 kilometers, and was 19 kilometers from the city of Khoy, according to what the agency quoted from the National Seismological Center of the University of Tehran.

This earthquake was felt by the residents of the province, including the city of Urmia, the center of the province, despite its distance from the location of the earthquake.

For its part, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center confirmed that it had detected a 5.3-magnitude earthquake in the region.

Also, an earthquake struck a neighboring area in Iran on the 16th of March, and the magnitude of the earthquake, whose epicenter was the Iraqi-Iranian border, was 5 degrees.
