At least 53 people were killed in tribal fighting in the northern highlands of Papua New Guinea, Australian Broadcasting Corporation said on Monday, citing local police.
A report by the local Post-Courier newspaper said that the violence occurred on Sunday oldue to a battle between two tribes.
Security is a major issue in Papua New Guinea, where at least 16 people were killed in riots in the country last month.
