The China Earthquake Networks Center announced that an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit Wensu County, Aksu Prefecture, in northwest China's Xinjiang Region, at 7:58 a.m. Monday.
According to Sputnik, a Russian news agency, the epicenter of the earthquake was monitored at a depth of 10 kilometers, at 41.87 degrees north latitude and 79.85 degrees east longitude.
The epicenter was 84 km from the city of Aksu and 670 km from the regional capital, Urumqi.
No material or human losses have been reported so far, according to the local authorities.
After the earthquake, the local fire department sent two vehicles with 10 firefighters on board to the affected areas.
However, electricity supply, oil, and gas production, and major petrochemical companies were not affected following the earthquake, with daily production and operations continuing as usual.
