A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck central Peru on Thursday, according to the country’s National Seismological Center.
The quake was centered south of the capital, Lima, at a depth of approximately 53 kilometers. Tremors were felt in parts of the capital, prompting concern among residents.
Authorities have not reported any injuries or structural damage following the seismic event.
Peru is located along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” one of the most seismically active regions in the world, where tectonic plate movements frequently trigger earthquakes. While moderate tremors are common in the country, officials continue to monitor seismic activity closely.
Emergency services remain on alert, though no immediate impact has been confirmed.
