In a significant blow to the Al-Qaeda-affiliated group Al-Shabaab, at least 50 militants, including several high-ranking leaders, were killed in recent military operations conducted by the Somali Army in the southern town of Jammaame.

The operations, as reported by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA) on Saturday, took place in areas along the Jubba River in the Lower Juba province.

The confrontations also resulted in the injury and capture of other Al-Shabaab members, though their exact numbers were not disclosed. Additionally, the Somali forces successfully neutralized several land mines during these operations, enhancing security in the region.

The military offensive unfolded over the past few days and was part of ongoing efforts by the Somali government to combat Al-Shabaab. Just a day before this operation, another joint military action involving the Somali National Army and Jubaland state forces led to the death of 30 Al-Shabaab fighters.

The Somali government has been engaged in a prolonged conflict against Al-Shabaab, which was founded in early 2004 and has since carried out numerous bombings that have claimed the lives of civilians as well as military and police personnel.
