5 New Movies to Watch This Week

Summer movie season is upon us, which means a grabbing cold drink and streaming one of the new TV shows and movies premiering this weekend.

This weekend brings an array of new options. There’s something for everyone, from Chris Pratt bring his special fighting skills in "The Tomorrow War" to Steven Soderbergh's latest crime movie "No Sudden Move".

Here’s a rundown on the movies opening this week:

 The Tomorrow War

The "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Chris Pratt battles aliens on Earth for a change in his latest movie "The Tomorrow War".

Pratt plays an everyman recruited for a time-traveling mission to the future to save the Earth from destruction.

The movie also stars Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, Jasmine Mathews, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Keith Powers.

It is written by Zach Dean and directed by Chris McKay in his live-action directorial debut.

The Forever Purge

The fifth "Purge" installment features a Mexican couple, driven out by a cartel and living in Texas, deal with the dangerous consequences when hate groups continue the annual Purge— one night where all crime is legal for 12 hours— after the time period expires.

It stars Ana de la Reguera, Josh Lucas Tenoch Huerta, and others. Everardo Gout directed from a screenplay by James DeMonaco.

“The Forever Purge” has more action than usual while tackling real-world issues of white supremacy and immigration.

The Boss Baby: Family Business

The animated sequel to the hit 2017 DreamWorks Animation original “The Boss Baby” catches up with the OG Boss Baby, aka Ted (voiced by Alec Baldwin), and his estranged big brother Tim (James Marsden) as grown-ups who have to magically revert to their kid selves and go undercover at Tim's daughter's school to stop a baby revolution.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994

Based on the R.L. Stine horror books, this breathtaking R-rated teen slasher is the first chapter of the "Fear Street" movie trilogy, which is set to stream over three weeks.

The trilogy begins in Shadyside, 1994, chronicling the lives of unlucky teens living in Shadyside who discover that the terrifying events that have haunted their town for over 300 years may be connected. They soon become targets themselves.

“Fear Street Part 1” is directed by Leah Janiak, who co-wrote the script with Phil Graziadei.

The movie stars Maya Hawke, Kiana Madeira, Charlene Amoia, and others.

No Sudden Move

Set in 1950s Detroit, Steven Soderbergh's nicely paced and enjoyably quirky movie centers around a group of small-time criminals who are hired to steal what they believe to be a simple document. When their plan goes horribly wrong, they search for who hired them and for what ultimate purpose.

It stars Don Cheadle, Benicio del Toro, David Harbour, Ray Liotta, Jon Hamm, Amy Seimetz, Brendan Fraser, Kieran Culkin, Noah Jupe, Craig muMs Grant, Julia Fox, Frankie Shaw, and Bill Duke.

The movie is scripted by Ed Solomon.
