A gunman stormed a care home in Croatia, resulting in the deaths of five residents.
The attack took place in the town of Daruvar, about 75 miles east of the capital, Zagreb, according to the Croatian public broadcaster HRT.
HRT reported that a man armed with a firearm entered a private care home and began shooting at those present.
Five victims were killed instantly, and while the exact number of injured remains unclear, the state news agency HINA confirmed that several individuals are receiving medical treatment.
The gunman fled the scene but was later apprehended near a café. Authorities have not yet provided further details, stating that the investigation is ongoing.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković expressed his shock and sorrow over the incident in a social media post: "We are horrified by the murder of five people in a nursing home in Daruvar. Our condolences go out to the families of the victims, and we hope for the recovery of the injured. I expect the relevant authorities to determine all the circumstances of this heinous crime."
