At least five people have been killed in a drone attack targeting a civilian vehicle on the outskirts of Khartoum, according to a local Sudanese human rights organization.

The Sudanese group Emergency Lawyers said the strike, carried out on Saturday morning, hit a vehicle travelling from White Nile State towards Omdurman, a city adjoining the capital.

The organization, which monitors violence against civilians, said the attack reflects a continuing pattern of targeting civilians on public roads and in populated areas.

Khartoum had largely been spared from attacks by the Rapid Support Forces after the army retook control of the capital last year, although the city has recently seen sporadic strikes.

The Rapid Support Forces, which has been engaged in a prolonged conflict with the Sudanese army for more than three years, did not immediately claim responsibility for the incident.

Emergency Lawyers condemned the attack and directly blamed the Rapid Support Forces, calling it a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.”

The war in Sudan continues to escalate amid ongoing clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, with civilians frequently caught in the crossfire across multiple regions of the country.
