Five people were killed and two others injured after a fire broke out in a residential building in central China, according to Chinese emergency authorities.
State news agency Xinhua reported that the blaze erupted at around 3:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday in the Yanfeng district of Hengyang city, located in Hunan.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene following reports of the fire, while rescue teams worked to evacuate residents from the building.
Authorities confirmed that five people died in the incident, while two injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
