5 people were killed and 24 others were injured when a suspension bridge partially collapsed in a tourist area in Zhaosu County, Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, north of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Chinese authorities reported, according to Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday, that the accident occurred when one of the bridge's supporting cables snapped, causing its deck to tilt and 29 people to fall.
The authorities added that among the injured, 22 sustained minor injuries, while two were described as "serious," but not life-threatening. all the injured were transferred to local hospitals for treatment.
The tourist area was completely closed, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident.
