Severe flooding has left at least five people dead in the US state of Missouri, including two election workers, after heavy rainfalls inundated the area.
According to CBS News, relentless rain over the past two days triggered significant floods that submerged streets and homes, with some areas receiving as much as 20 centimeters of rainfall.
Among the victims were a married couple who worked as poll workers for the presidential election.
The 70-year-old husband and his 73-year-old wife were found in their vehicle after it was swept away by floodwaters near Beaver Creek at around 4:30 a.m., more than four hours after it was washed off the road in Manes County.
The floods also caused power outages at one polling station and complicated access to others across the state, leaving dozens of roads impassable.
Many voters braved the downpour, lining up outside polling stations to cast their ballots despite challenging conditions.
The floodwaters stranded drivers in their cars and disrupted bus services across several routes in the St. Louis area. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service reported that at least four tornadoes may have touched down in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas on Monday.
There have been no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities from the tornadoes.
