Engineer Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, held an expanded session of discussions with Adolfo Orso, Italian Minister of Projects, who is currently visiting Egypt at the head of a high-level delegation that includes government officials and representatives of the private sector.

The minister said that the past period witnessed great activity, momentum, and strong relations between the two countries, especially in the wake of the meeting held by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi with Giorgia Meloni, the Italian Prime Minister, which reflects the depth of relations between the two countries.

Samir pointed out Egypt's keenness to continue all joint cooperation projects with the Italian side.

He noted that Egypt has great opportunities in the field of pharmaceutical industries worth $4.5 billion in the fields of active ingredients, vaccinations and biological medicines, which will be of interest to Egyptian companies and their Italian counterparts.

The minister added that Italy is Egypt's largest trade partner in the European Union, as the volume of trade exchange between the two countries during the year 2023 reached about 5 billion and 145 million dollars, noting that Italy is one of Egypt's most important economic partners in the world, with investments exceeding 3 billion dollars in 1,288 projects. .

Adolfo Orso, Italian Minister of Projects, affirmed his country’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations with Egypt to distinguished levels as it is one of Italy’s strategic partners in a large number of areas of common interest, noting that this meeting is considered an initiative to implement what was agreed upon during the meeting between President Sisi and the Italian Prime Minister. He added that bilateral projects were agreed upon as stipulated in the Italian initiatives for the “Mati for Africa” plan, pointing out that Italy is participating with Egypt in many projects in cooperation with other partners from the European Union.

He noted that Italy will work, within the framework of its membership in the Group of Seven, to involve many other countries in the projects that will be implemented, pointing out that the existing cooperation projects between Egypt and Italy include the Leather City project in Rubiki, the Furniture City in Damietta, the solar energy field in Aswan, and the extraction project.
