On Saturday, militants from terrorist groups killed at least 46 people in three villages in Niger State, north-central Nigeria, according to a source in a humanitarian organization.

The source said 38 people were shot or slaughtered in Konkoso village, seven others were killed in Tungan Makiri, and one person was killed in Bisa.

The source added that around 80% of homes in Konkoso were burned down and that additional bodies are still being recovered.

The three villages fall under the Borgu Local Government Area, which borders Kwara State, where more than 160 people were killed earlier this month in similar attacks.

Jeremiah Timothy, a resident of Konkoso who fled to a nearby village, said the attack began in the early hours of the morning with sporadic gunfire.

Another resident, who requested anonymity, said the attackers were riding more than 200 motorcycles as they swept through the area, targeting the villages.
