More than 425 people have been arrested during a pro-Palestinian rally in London, following demonstrations in support of the banned group Palestine Action.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that most of the arrests were connected to offences under the Terrorism Act, relating to support for a proscribed organization.

Over 25 further arrests were made for assaults on police officers and public order violations, with reports of officers being struck, spat at and targeted with thrown objects.

The demonstration took place in Parliament Square opposite the Palace of Westminster and drew more than a thousand participants.

On the same day, a separate National March for Palestine, organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, attracted around 20,000 people marching from Russell Square to the residence of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Palestine Action was officially banned in the United Kingdom on 5 July at the recommendation of then Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, a move endorsed by both houses of Parliament. Since its proscription, membership, participation in meetings or any form of support for the group has become a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

Hundreds of individuals have been detained at demonstrations backing Palestine Action since the ban was enforced, with more than 110 charged under counter-terrorism legislation.
