400 Global Artists Urge Removal of Their Music from Israeli Platforms in Protest of Gaza Genocide

Nearly 400 international artists have signed a petition demanding the removal of their music from Israeli streaming platforms in protest of what they describe as a genocide in Gaza, according to a report by Haaretz.

The move is part of a growing global backlash against Israel’s ongoing military actions in the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, 2023. Since then, over 65,062 Palestinians have been killed and 165,697 wounded, the majority of whom are women and children. In addition, famine conditions have claimed the lives of 432 people, including 146 children.

The petition comes amid Israel’s broader military escalations, including a war with Iran launched in June, as well as continued airstrikes in Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. Just last week, an attempted Israeli airstrike in Qatar aimed at assassinating Hamas leaders reportedly failed.

The signatories of the petition are calling on global music platforms to stand in solidarity with Palestinians by halting the availability of their works in Israeli markets.

Israel, which has occupied Palestinian territories, as well as land in Syria and Lebanon for decades, continues to reject international calls to withdraw and allow the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.

The global cultural boycott echoes wider international efforts to hold Israel accountable for its military actions and alleged violations of international law.
