At least 40 people were killed and eight others injured after an overcrowded passenger bus veered off a highway and plunged into a ravine in southwestern Pakistan, according to local officials.
According to authorities, the driver lost control of the vehicle in the remote Dana Sar area near the border between Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Government spokesman Shahid Rind said the bus was carrying passengers through the mountainous region when it crashed into the narrow valley, causing heavy casualties.
Road accidents are common in Pakistan due to poor road conditions, overloaded vehicles and lax safety standards, particularly in remote and mountainous areas.
