The US military said on Wednesday that it carried out a strike on a vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.
In a statement posted on X, US Southern Command said intelligence assessments confirmed that the vessel was operating along a known drug trafficking route in the eastern Pacific and was involved in narcotics smuggling activities.
The incident highlights ongoing US military and law enforcement efforts to combat transnational drug trafficking networks operating across maritime routes in the Pacific region.
US Southern Command routinely conducts surveillance and interdiction operations in cooperation with regional partners to disrupt illicit trafficking and organized crime.
Further details about the vessel, the identities of those killed, and the circumstances of the strike were not immediately released.
