British authorities have confirmed the deaths of four individuals following the crash of a small aircraft during takeoff at London Southend Airport on Sunday.

PA Media reported the tragic incident on Monday.

According to Essex Police, all four occupants of the aircraft were pronounced dead at the scene. No further details have been released regarding the identities of the victims.

The crash occurred shortly after the aircraft began its takeoff roll. The airport, located approximately 56 kilometers east of central London, remains closed as investigations continue.

London Southend Airport is a regional hub frequently used by low-cost carrier easyJet for flights to several European holiday destinations. Emergency crews and aviation safety authorities are currently working to determine the cause of the crash.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is expected to lead the inquiry into the incident, as the UK aviation sector mourns another rare but serious accident involving a light aircraft.
